Pre-Production

GMA has bought the rights from Televisa to do a Philippine adaptation of this telenovela set on 2009. Marian Rivera was the first choice to play Rosalinda after playing MariMar, Rivera's first big break, but she sets to play Darna in her title role (or Narda). The GMA Network management and staff has decided to choose Carla Abellana to portray Rosalinda in her title role. The returning Kapuso star Geoff Eigenmann plays Fernando Jose. Some actors like Dingdong Dantes, Richard Gutierrez, Aljur Abrenica and Dennis Trillo were considered to play Fernando Jose.

Katrina Halili, who is famous for portraying Angelika in Marian Rivera's MariMar in 2007, returns to play a role of Fedra, after Halili's absence in show business for a short time in which she involved in a Hayden cam scandal.

Abellana underwent acting and singing workshops, and dancing lessons in preparation for the role.
A story conference already started, with some of the confirmed cast (see Cast and Characters) in attendance. The story conference was held at the Studio 7 dining hall of the GMA Network Studios.

Plot

The series starts with a woman named Soledad Romero (Glydel Mercado). Attorney Alfredo Del Castillo (Ariel Rivera) is Soledad's boss and secret lover. Don Jose Fernando Atlamirano (Carlos Morales), Alfredo's brother-in-law, feels lust for Soledad, but she only has eyes for Alfredo. One day, Don Jose Fernando sends a letter to Soledad pretending to be Alfredo. When she arrives at their meeting place, Don Jose Fernando tries to rape Soledad. Alfredo arrives just in time and kills Jose Fernando to save Soledad. However, Alfredo collapses from a seizure, and Soledad is left holding the gun as the help and a young Fernando Jose, Jose Fernando's son, arrives on the scene. Jose Fernando's wife and Alfredo's sister, Dona Valeria (Sheryl Cruz), does not believe that it was Alfredo who killed her husband, but blames Soledad. As such, Soledad is sent to prison for 24 years for a crime she did not commit.

While serving her sentence, Soledad gives birth to a baby girl, naming her Rosalinda (Carla Abellana). But because she is incarcerated, she is forced to give the baby to her sister, Dolores Perez (Jennifer Sevilla). At the same time, Dolores' daughter dies. To avoid telling her husband, Javier (Gary Estrada), the truth, she tells him that Rosalinda is their daughter. When Soledad finds out, she gets angry, but she also realizes that her daughter will have a better future not knowing that her real mother is in jail.

Years later, Rosalinda is now an adult and falls in love with the handsome Fernando Jose (Geoff Eigenmann). Neither knows the truth about their respective pasts. When Dona Valeria finds out that Fernando Jose is in a relationship, she gets mad at her son for dating someone beneath their social status. Dolores and Rosalinda's sister, Fedra (Katrina Halili) also does not accept their relationship because she is also infatuated with Fernando Jose. But despite all the things and people going against them, Rosalinda and Fernando Jose find a way to keep their love strong.

Now these questions remain: Will Soledad get released from prison and revenge Atty. Alfredo and Dona Valeria? Will Fedra steal Fernando Jose from her sister, Rosalinda? Will Dona Valeria take revenge on Soledad for killing her husband? And most importantly, will Rosalinda and Fernando Jose survive all the obstacles and live happily ever after?

Changes from the Original

Florentino, the black old man of the owner of Flower Shop business was replaced by a named Florencio, a gay in this series.
Lucy (the youngest sister) is now the pre-teenage (or 13-year-old) girl of this series. In the original version, Lucy is mature girl (about 18 or 19 years old) and also she married Anibal (Fedra's ex-boyfriend).
Dona Evangelina is the new character in this series in which she doesn't mentioned in the original version. She was the former girlfriend and later became Don Alfredo's wife after Soledad was imprisoned.
In the original series, Alex Dorantes appears as Rosalinda's (or as Paloma's) ex-husband and manager. In this series, Alex will soon appear in the show.
In the original series, Abril is the kept daughter of Dona Valeria. In this series, Abril is the daughter of Don Alfredo and Dona Evangelina and half-sister of Rosalinda.
The theme song was change and it only contains 1 element of the original version.

Reception

Contrary to expectations, Rosalinda received lukewarm reception during its first few episodes. According AGB Nielsen ratings for Mega Manila, its one-hour pilot posted only 26.3 percent, a rating which while decent is relatively low when compared to series premieres of other precedent shows on Philippine primetime especially among its network contemporaries. It also failed to beat competing programs Only You and Tayong Dalawa and ranking only 6th among primetime shows. Ratings improved slightly in the next few days receiving 28.9 ratings on both 2nd and 3rd episode bringing Rosalinda to the 3rd spot despite weak rating points.
